Always interesting to find out people mentality by posing an enough challenging questions.

I was out last weekend looking at tires, like I have better than nothing to do then just going around rubbing rubbers. I guess this question is always there but not really gone into details anyway this what I encounter, me and my "buddy", we were looking at the Federal Tires. They have 2 models, the 595Evo and the Fomorza FD. The Evo no doubt is the much more "garang" model, you can see it from the tire tread and the design itself whereas the FD is more subdue. So these two models have their own purpose, the Evo will grip better in the wet and the dry. The FD will grip lesser under both condition but it's a silent perfromer. However both tires should be more that good enough under normal driving, however the Evo will mean that you can go at higher speed than the FD. On wet surface also you will have to slow down if you are on the FD whereas for the Evo you don't have to lift off the throttle.

Question: Which one to choose, performance and safety but a bit noisy or silent but you will need to go slower than your usual fast driving?

My guess is that majority will say the first option, performance and safety, if this is so then why do we get itchy backside and after 30K or 40K when the tire get more noisy then we start shopping for new rubber even if the treadware is less than 30%?

need to chg ur noisy but gd performance Neuton tyres eh??
tyre window shopping is good...u get to determine wat u want best for ur car..

its like choosing a performance car with family safety aspect n good BHP...yet with FC low...
mana ada brO...u onli get one option...FC wise or performance wise car..

for those who itcy bakside screaming wen their tyres are making hella lots of noise...its the same for the owner who owns it...they are the rightful owners who choose the tyres b4 installing onto their rims..
for me noise is bearable as i ride..
for my low end tyre of FEDERAL 535 SS still out performs my expectations...coz its juz passed a year mark..with no visible tyre wear..
nid to do rotation n balancing once evry 6-9 months..
still EVO595 is my ultimate street race tyres...with bigger rims that is..

Maybe you didn't get my question or my posting. Already stated, you can't have both and you are repeating what I had posted by giving me crap and bullshit about FC and performance. Evil or Very Mad

The question I posted was, which would you choose between safety & performance Vs. Comfort? Mad

Well, for a start, I've tried "prerformance" tyres in the Hankook V8 and yes they are good and grippy. Only problem they lasted me only 40k km. So i tried the less expensive Neuton 5000. Already more than 35k km and tyrewear is really surprisingly good. I done 180km/h on these rubbers and though they are noisy, the grip is good. Done 140km/h on the wet with no significant problems. I've seen and read abt Federal 595 Evo and from feedback, theses rubbers have good grips both in the dry and wet. Of course, we exercise caution when speeding on the wet, so not many will drive like we drive on dry road. That's exactly, why I'm now looking at quieter rubbers with reasonable performance. The Federal FD2 is touted to be comfort tyres but if you look at the specs for the 16" profile, it's W rating with XL (extra load). They would be good enough for my daily use. That would be my next change rubbers. 595 Evo, I'll revisit when things get itchy again.. Cheers

Just because you choose comfort, doesn't mean you sacrifice safety. Check out what W rating means and you'll know what speed these tyres are capable of. I can only dream of attaining that speed on my current ride.

Taking a break from making any decision on tyre change now, yesterday my Neuton 5000 full potential was realised. Went to Bukit Indah in JB last night it was drizzling on some part of the highway, this tyre grip in the wet is simply excellent. Also notice that the noise level is down when the road is wet. I can hear my engine instead of the road noise despite going at 140 km/h and above.

I can only conclude that this is a wet tyre, that perform well when the temperature is low and the road condition is wet. Since we are now in the monsoon season, I will hold back any changes till the weather gets dry. How cool if I could afford the space to use 2 sets of tyres instead of 1 hybrid type Laughing

Been checking on tyres reviews since i got my new brake pads as backside itchy again. Think I'm finally settled on Goodyear LS2000 Hybrid II. Made in Japan and costing about $130 for 16". The overall reviews have been pretty good with hardly any adverse comments. I'm dropping the initial plans for Federal FD2 as at $110 for 16", might as well get the the Hybrid II. Also comments are quite varied from "excellent" to "regret getting these tyres". Will shop around soon.. Stay tuned... Very Happy

For safety even if you are on the best tyre grip you are still risk but lesser no doubt. Our car is heavy compared to japanese makes and you often see accidents that involves skidded of the road are japanese make. I think the weight will play and advantage part here.

There are other reasons as well, such as if the vehicle is equiped wth ABS, the condition of the brakes and others such as SSBH and also not forgetting drivers' skill. It would be an unfair assumption to lump it on a certain make or manufacturer attributing to such incidents.

Therefore don't go around thinking that continental car ( Chevy sold in Singapore are not continental make, they are either from Korea or Thailand ) will have better braking capability due to it's weight. The last I check our cars are slightly heavier then Jap cars but not accessive like the real conti cars such as Merc or Audi. Even the Euro are slimming down on their car weight, good example would be the likes of Fiats and Renaults.

woah...seriously u go google the euro cars for their laden weight...gd work lar brO.. clown
maybe its time for the korean/tahiland made cars to suit up the cars with more precision/performance braking systems fitted in ..local brembo that is..cheapo.

Not a problem, however how are they going to be compete against the Jap make in term of pricing if they give you all the precision equipment? Price per price, the Koreans are gaining the market due to their pricing. Perhaps they can emulate the marketing strategy of the China made car like changing the air filter to Simota Carbon Charger and etc.. lol!
