Re: Inspection Woes
The "cat " is one of the most expensive component in your exhaust system. If you slice up the cat, you'll see that it consists of something that is like honeycomb. Why is it the most expensive component? The material they use to produce the cat is not cheap, the purpose of the cat is when the poisonous gas goes through the honeycomb chamber a chemical reaction occur, whereby a high percentrage of the toxic gas from your engine exhaust get converted to less poisonous gases.
Many people felt that the cat is a restriction to the exhaust flow and thus by removing it they will increase the power output, however an exhaust system cannot be free flowing even for a manual car, some back pressure is still required for the car to perform at optimum. Some even resorted to "operating" the cat by inserting straight thru pipes.
I oppose to the removal of the cat 100%. Look at the weather these past few weeks and maybe you would appreciate my concern. The act of driving a car is already polluting and creating a hole in the ozone layer. Manufacturer introduce all these features and government agencies impose the law to protect the Earth and it's inhibitant, the Kyoto Accord is there for a reason and car owner must have the responsibility not to further damage our fragile Earth.
People who knowingly mod their car illegally and contribute to the global warming in my eyes are simply BASTARDS MFs! Look for safer alternative if you want more horsepower in your ride, save the money and go buy a turbo charge performance car or something. Otherwise invest in a high flow cat converter, if you get caught, the fines would be higher than a muffler mod, and if you need to fix back the cat, the cost is going to be higher as well.
This is my personal opinion and don't take it as flaming.

Words on the street, the Optra is already on the high flow cat..
--------------- Honestly ... I think my ride is good enuf just the way I want it..so I'm not touching the exhaust system...I'm happy with it.

Re: Inspection Woes
Last week took time off to prepare for my 3rd year inspection, least to say my left H4 went up the lorry and that need changing before the inspection. So thumbs down for Nightbreaker, lasted less then a year, I changed the bulb last December. Also up the lorry my right rear plate light. Got both blown bulb changed, as for the H4, I'm back to stock lights cost me $33 at Autobac.
Inspection was a breeze, pass everything and it was so fast I miss half of it. Park my car at the inpsection bay and pass the keys to the inspectors, went to make payment for the inspection and by the time I clear that, my car half way through the inspection. Didn't notice if they check my window tint at all.
So the next full vehicle inspection will be 2 years from now, more hardcore possion to come? I don't think so, it seem that whenever I do anything to the car, I seem to less enjoy my ride, so i think I will maintain at stock level but may consider coilover, 3 years already so my suspension giving me squeeaky noise, time to research again, heard RDY got bring in some coilover for Optra, any comments?

Re: Inspection Woes
2 years are almost up for the upcoming 2nd term of mandatory inspection for my aVeo.
how now...with so much "MOds" at stake....what shall i do...revert back to stock?hehe...
since the increased of car COE premiums...its understand for peeps in spore to retain their existing car...hence more maintenance n refresh "mods"
hopefully the rate of inspection doesnt shoot up the wall....hopefully mine will pass again..
anyway can i do the inspection as early as feb or march...my due will be on June..possible boh?got project to embark on...hehehe

Re: Inspection Woes
I think they will allow you, but do take note the inspection certificate have validity date and fi not mistaken it's only for 3 months, so if you do now, June must go for another round of inspection
