The Car or the Driver Empty The Car or the Driver

Recently if anyone is following F1, you guys might have heard about Jenson Button and Brawn. In the F1 community, the hottest debate now is " Is it the car or driver?". Jenson has been in F1 for a considerable time, he started in his late teen driving from one team to another. When he initially starts off in F1, he was touted as the future F1 Champion, that was like 13 or 14 years ago. I think his best season was in 2005 when he was with the then Honda team coming in on the podium quite regularly in 2 or 3rd spot. He was suppose to reign supreme in 2006 but instead he had one of his worst season. He won his first GP in Hungary in the wet and after that it was all downhill for him that is until this year when he suddenly start to win 6 GPs so far and leading the Driver's Championship.

This year he is driving a Brawn GP car, he is at the top, and it's only natural that people start asking is it the car or the driver? The Brawn GP car is so good that it's just like the previous Ferrari, put any driver in and that person will be the champ! Least to say if it's a good car, any driver can be good driving that car, agreed?

I think to some extend if the car is very good, a certain percentage of how good this car is, must depend largely on the drivers' talent as well. Take the instance of Jenson and compare his accomplishment so far this year with his teammate Reubens, same car but different level of success, for this matter might as well compare M Schumacher, he was always much more superior then any of his teammates. However the best comparison would be Fernando Alonso in the Renault, comparing him to his teammate in the same car, this car is not one of the best this year, but Fernando always manage to out drive his teammate during qualification and the race itself.

The combination of both driver and car play their part. How does this apply to us the normal people on the road? Personally for me I feel that the ability of the car will bring out the best in the driver. I have driven many cars previously and each time the car will dictate my driving style. My last car was the Nissan Sunny, I drove that car like a gentleman. However for the Optra that I'm driving now, well my wife already comment that I seem to be more aggressive driving this car. Last night I race with a Vios along the PIE after the Bedok North exit all the way to the Pasir Ris exit. The Vios was infront of me and going fast on the overtaking lane. Actually I was not racing with him, he was going fast I was simply following him, maybe I follow him quite close because once we hit 140 km/h he move over to the middle lane and let me past and then he tried catching up with me which is not easy.

Bottom line, I would not have driven that way if I'm driving some other car but since I feel that this car can keep on going , so I went. cheers

Wah.. fierce seh.. Not racing already hit 140km/h, wonder what the speedo reading is if you're racing.. But you got a point regarding the car itself. Frankly, it's really easy to be driving in excess of 100km/h in my ride. Feels comfortable, stable that you just sort of throttle up without realizing it. I just drove via Loyang to the Changi Broadwalk this morning to play with my new toy. Was driving at 80km/h in the middle lane. Then a Suzuki SX4 overtook me on the right. No problems there but the blinking driver stared at me while overtaking and that sort of pissed me off. Went after him and overtook from his left and glared at him and shot off. Don't know what got into me...Sometimes behind the wheel especially if alone, can become a monster in a sec. Shocked

Hehehe, where got fierce bro... that's just experience and most probably also the "middle age " crisis. It won't be long before we start to lose our edge and we will drive with goggles and clutching the steering very tightly and you young chaps will be horning and swearing at us tongue
