Servicing Schedule
Took some time yesterday to go and do my tire rotation at YHI. It's already 20K mileage for the tire and still ghood for another 20K! This means that my car is also due for it's 30K schedule servicing.
I'm torn about sending my car to Alpine Motors. Alternatively, I can just get the parts and send it elsewhere for servicing. Cost factor, Alpine is going to cost more and I don't like the engine oil option that they are using. The servicing package is $118 for semi-syn oil and if I want to go fully syn, must pay an additional $60 !
Any kind soul wants to share their thoughts with me on this delima?

Re: Servicing Schedule
Have to agree with bro stoned. Thank goodness, i don't have warranty issues anymore. I'll send to any WS that's convenient to me. I just get the parts and let the WS do the necessary. I sympathise with you bro Bow. You've got a fairly new ride, well maintained, still under warranty but with the horror stories i hear about Alpine, think you can't go wrong with servicing outside. Perhaps, you can do alternately - this way warranty is still intact (i think)..

Re: Servicing Schedule
Was going around Ubi this afternoon, confirm la Alpine new showroom is just beside the Starsauto showroom, i.e. the former Ford showroom. They claim to have spend 1.5 million refurbishing the place, when I pass by the building this afternoon, saw that they already got some cars into the showroom, no major work in progress and just 1 bangla clearing the compound. That bangla must be highly paid I guess.. $1.5 million..

Re: Servicing Schedule
Finally gave Alpine Motors a call to inquire about their servicing package.
When it comes to professionalism, Alpine is way off from Starsauto. Anyway call them up and spoke to "someone" because he did not identify himself and if he thinks that letting me know who he is, is not important, I too don't bother to ask who he was.
As usual I begin with "I'm a customer of Satarsauto and would like to inquire on your service package " and also I identify the car model and mileage for the servicing which is 30K. Nearly had a heart attack when he quoted me $418 for the servicing for my Optra
So I ask him, for that kind of money, what would he be doing for my car, maybe they would put the car through a "milk bath" or something? It's a 6 point servicing, to include coolant change... then he went " ohhh ..sorry your servicing is 30K, that want would be $278 and involve brake oil change."
Ok fair enough, $278 for 30K servcing, so what kind of oil they are using? Shell Helix Full Syn 5W-40. I also inquire if they have GM engine oil, and the fella said ya they have and I need to inform them when I sent in my car to use the GM oil instead of Shell. Then as usual I ask if need to pay extra for GM oil, and he said no need.
If I got my information correct, the GM oil is the bulk oil which comes in a drum and not your usual quart and 4 litre bottle and it's suppose to be cheaper than the Shell engine oil, so they won't charge me more for the GM oil, nor will they reduce the package as well. Then I tell the fella that I'm using aftermarket air intake system and won't need a replacement air filter, he said no problem, we just throw it inside your car and still charge you for it even if I don't use it! I guess no need to ask about spark plugs, since I'm on Iridium and doesn't need changing, most probably they throw that in my car and charge me for it as well.
So I'm still in 2 minds, should I sent it out to 3rd party or should I give AM a chance and try them out at the expense of $278?

Re: Servicing Schedule
Think u should go outside, as u know servicing by AD is where they really earn. To me, going is AD is expensive, take really long time, no choices of engine oil, poor service. But u find ur own workshop, buy ur own oil and filter, cheap and good, dun have to wait also, normally 30mins done. My 2 cent.
Btw, recently i went to Car-nivals at expo, bought a service package CDGE, quite a good deal, got a standard package at $98, which include Shell Helix Full Syn 5W-40(this standard is only normal servicing), then got sure-win lucky draw for a 2-in-1 air con service package. Even thou they have a premium package(think at ard $200). Which is more ideal for more detailed servicing. Thats all i have to share.

Re: Servicing Schedule
So any good workshop to recommend if avoiding the AD?
My main concern is the refreshing of the coolant which will be at 40K. Our rides a liitle bit special with the coolant, most of you will not bothered but I'm particular about this. First, our engines runs much more hotter than other car, and our coolant are long life silicate base coolant - the red color - ones. This coolant is very controversial. It's rated long life and don't need changing for 150,000 miles or 5 years, however here our owner's manual specify 40K or every 2 years must change, which is reasonable because in USA car owners used to the full 5 years encounter lots of problem. This coolant is not easy to find outside other than the agent, because the Jap cars uses the green color coolant.
I'm not going into the technical specs of the the coolant, but if you do, you guys will know why this is a better coolant then your standards green ones. This coolant is also "sensitive" or what we call "leceh". The recommended mixture is 50:50, for our climate. That is half coolant and half water and it's not your normal tap water but distilled water. You can't mix this coolant with the green ones, this will cause sludge in your intake manifold later on.
If anyone can recommend a workshop that understand my concern for the above, I will certainly stick to that workshop because most workshop don't bother about minor concern and they will brush off such things as "troublesome" customer but these are important things to ensure thyat our engines runs longer and better.

Re: Servicing Schedule
I have not sent my car for servicing yet. Still contemplating and furthermore I have outstanding issue in my personal life at this moment, a crisis and I have yet to resolve . So I'm off the car scene for the time being. Sorry, you will have to rely on someone else for that information.
