Just kena Nudged at my Backside

Was on the way to Mustaffa just now around 10.30pm. Just before Kitchener junction traffic lights, traffic suddenly was slow and eventually at a standstill. Just as i stopped the car completely, felt a nudge. Wifey scolded me for jerking the car but told her someone just kissed my backside. Went out to inspect. Don't seem to be any serious damage though i noticed paint pealing. The lone driver got down and apologised. I asked if he was ok and he replied he's alright. Then i asked how to settle this. I asked if he has a workshop i can send my car to but he didn't know of any. This guy doesn't look or sound local but seeing that he's a gentleman i told him i'll need to send for bumper touch up and respray. He said it's fine with him and gave me his namecard to contact him. Everything was done in good spirit with no shouting or pointing fingers. Only thing he said to be reasonable. Told him if there's no internal damage would probably cost around $200. I'm going to SzeKang at AMK Autopoint tmrw to get it assessed. You think i'm being fair and reasonable? Or should i go for broke??

What car is he driving? I'm sure if you are in his position, you expect the same thing from him, do on to others as how you wish them to do you.

He's driving Honda Oddesy and a Director of a number of companies. But since he's seem a descent bloke i'll just settle for a resprayed bumper. Got a quote from Sze Kang - $200. Probably get it done next week. One and half day downtime - no car. Have informed him and he's ok with the quote. Told him alternative is to get a new bumper.

Didn't take pictures lah. As you know my rear bumper already got some scratches so this nudge from behind is sort of a blessing. That's exactly why i'm not taking advantage of the situation like claiming $10k for loss of this and that. The honda bumper was a bit dented and number plate cracked a bit, while mine had paint peeling off. Don't think there's any internal damage as i could open my rear tail gate easily.

Actually that was what workshop suggested but don't seemed honest lah. If i want to change bumper than might as well get 2 of my rims repaired, change new tyres, service the car and claim injury..

When you rationalize the whole situation, as car owner we think what would be nice, like a new bumper for a non damage situation when a paint work will do the job. If the other driver refuse to settle, then insurance comes in, for a nudge the claim comes to $800 to $1K, then when they increase the insurance premium we make noise.

Ultimately what cost only $200 can be inflated just for workshop to earn which goes back to our premium which comes back to us again. We are always at the losing end, so bro MdZul I applaud your action by being reasonable and not to take advantage of the situation.

Paint peeled off due to scratches sustained in the bump. definitely i want that rectified as can see the black rubbers of the bumper. This not nice lah.. Only way to cut repair cost is to respray whole bumper or else change whole bumper, which is what some would claim to do but in actual fact just respray; difference in $$ just pocket lah. But just don't seem honest and since the driver never try to shift blame, i just do the right thing lah. If i post this in another forum, people would say - "go for broke"!

I'm a bit confused here. This is considered as private settlement right? No insurance involved? But we still need to make a report to our insurance company right and tell them both parties decided to do a private settlement? For bro pl case, where is the black and white that both parties agree to a private settlement if its one? If its a private settlement, where does the bill go to? What if last minute the other party dosent agree? What if the other party informed his insurance company and claiming against bro pl insurance co??

Have faith bro... that is the standard procedure if you do not trust the other driver. However if you do, you can follow PL's way lah.

As for private settlement and making report to the insurance, that's really up to you. It will only add to their statistic for them to increase the premiums.

So where does the bill go to? Our own pocket 1st or bill to the other party?
