MUST DO ... in 2010

I think the worst is over for most of us, so I think it's a good idea to revive that trip to Malaysia. I'm working out some alternative, but mostly it's going to be a 2 days 1 night event, have not decided if it's going to be a family event or only for the guys.

My only concern is that I don't like the idea of the car going on the NSH with only driver and no co-driver, a bit dangerous. Ultimately it would be fun if we can go to Bandar Sunway. Anyway I will post my ideas later on for further discussion, will try to include the cost as well.

Ok here is the deal, I will try to minimise the cost of the trip and thus will come up with only 1 alternative.

Trip Duration: 2 Days 1 Night
Trip likely Destination: USJ ( Subang Jaya)

Breakdown of Cost:-

Toll : RM 90 ( To and Back) - estimate
Petrol : RM 150
Accommodation : RM 155/- ( Summit Subang Jaya ) lowest rate for a Superior King or Twin. Those with bigger budget can opt for bigger rooms and if travelling with children can opt for the Deluxe Room which comes with a Queen and a Single Bed at RM 181.

Total is around RM545 or SGD 226 given at the exchange rate of SGD 1 = RM 2.41.

Assuming that this trip will be for family, which include spouses and children so the itineary would be something like this:-

Day 1
1. Form up at Gelang Patah Rest Area by 6 am.
2. Depart at 6.30 am.
3. Arrive at Bandar Sunway 10 am
-- Breakfast
-- Spouses and Children have the option to shop or watch movie at Sunway Pyramid
-- Group member will venture to the car accessories heaven or can even join the Spouses group.
4. Lunch between 1pm to 2 pm (own time, own target)
5. Check in hotel between 2pm to 3pm
6. Free and easy, as the hotel is located within Summit Shopping Center and there are about 4 levels of shopping, food, bowling alley and cinemas as well. For the more adventurous can walk to either Giant or Mydin which is within walking distance.
7. Group Dinner between 7 pm to 10 pm

Day 2
1. Breakfast - Own time, own target. Those that wish to sleep in (ahem) can do so.
2. Check out from hotel 12 noon. Can request for late check out up till 1 pm.
3. Lunch 12 noon to 2pm.
4. Depart for Putrajaya/Cyberjaya
5. Depart back to Singapore by 4 pm.
6. Depending on the time we arrive in JB, can make a point to have dinner at Bukit Indah or some thereafter.
7. Home before 12 midnight

This is off course just a proposal and the timing and activities can be adjusted accordingly. Least to say, this is not something that just simply going to be done next week or next month, lets' plan this out and save some money as well. Given my estimation is around $ 250 or $300 per car to include toll, petrol, accommodation and meal. I think most of us can set a side minimum of between $50 to $100 a month to make this trip a reality. We can aim for this trip somewhere in April or May of 2010 or even later but we must make every attempt to go on this trip.

So what say you guys?

Waiting for more response then we can start discussing this seriously and start saving little by little and enjoy the trip.

No matter la bro, not all can do that, we just take our own sweet time but this trip must happen in 2010, even if we need to save up till the end of the year!

I'm ok with the plans. But think we make it a boys' outing as 2D1N, wifey not so keen as rushed shopping for her.

Not only that he also needs to schedule "make baby" for the whole of 2010. Timing belt change not priority when compared to "make baby" schedule..

What's your mileage and when it's due for the timing belt change?

over due...but actually 80k is still possible to change.

Your timing belt change is overdue, our recommended change is at 60K. Try not to stretch it to 80 K, recently one of our bro send in the car at 60K and already the drive belt is worn out.

So pushing it further is a risk you have to take, there are instances where the belt snap at 70K and cost the owner nearly $3K to $5K to overhaul the engine and change the bend piston.

Generally other Korean cars (Hyundai) can go to 80K as specify by the manufacturer as well as most Japanese cars except Nissan, theirs is at 120 K since they are using chain instead of belt, since you are driving a Chevy you should follow the manufacturer recommendation and not some other car make and brand.
