Bro Ikon and me recceed a nice location for sunrise shoot and since Ramadan is just a couple of days later, thought i organize this. I know there's at least 3 shutterbugs among us. Anyway, if anyone interested:

Location: Changi (near the bus terminal)
Day/Date: 31 Jul 2011
Time: 6.30am onwards (maybe earlier)
Other agenda: Bfast after the shoot.

If no takers, i might just do this alone.
Cheers all...

Let me start off the photo series if any for the sunrise shoot at Changi....

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Didn't get much of the sunrise, as I overshot the best time for that ! So anyway decide to go for something that I see that could be the subject for the photoshoot.

Luv the shot of fisherman casting his net. Just got the timing right with the net at the right maximum spread. The sunrise also not bad. I'll post my shots soon. Need to improve on details first. Think you used the 50mm lens right. Good stuff...!

Yup on the Pentax SMC A - 50mm f1.7, very old lens. Got it for $140, value for money this manual lens and it's teaching me new stuff when I use it... this is really good exercise, can't wait to go out on more photoshoot.

Anything that's not a zoom is a prime lens la! I don't really understand what is back or the front focus issues, maybe bro PL can help you there, he's like my lens guru la, anything I don't know I would consult him. Anyway if you think your lens is doing that, if it's still under warranty just bring back to the service center for calibration. I know my K5 there is a function for -+ the focusing but too technical for me, I just like to compose and shoot Laughing

Think your lens needs calibration. If still under warranty, then it's probably FOC. This is a common problem with Sigma lens also. After sometime, lens needs calibration or else can't focus well.

Some fotos taken during last outing at Changi, sunrise. You'll see the colour difference between my fotos and bro ikon's. I was experimenting with sunrise filter but thing got them a bit too warm. Need more practice..

Interesting concept this "red filter", just for the benefit of the rest, there are two types of filter that you can apply, first is the physical filter and the other is the build-in filter found in your camera body, alternatively you can also use Photoshop or other similar software to "post-process" the effect.

The difference is when you are using the physical filter, metering will be affected... is that right Bro PL?

Your metering will be affected but your camera meter would already have compensate for the loss. Alternatively, you could use the f-stop compensation + or - .

did calibration recently with my camera b4 warranty expires..
FOC.
anyway mine is F1.8 50mm Sony lens bro...not sigma...
sigma im havg is 18-200mm
maybe due to my inexperience in DSLR...still shooting in AUTO mode.
occassional manual aperture on still life potraits n landscapes.

What i meant was this is common problem with Sigma lens. I guess you're using Sony but the problem seem to be same as Sigma's. Get the lens calibrated and it should solve your problem.

There is nothing wrong in shooting "AUTO" mode, you just need to know about your camera functions such as DOF preview and etc fully utilize it. Not really sure of your problem whether it's back/front focusing issue or simply operator's error, maybe you can post some images with the EXIF intact for dissection.

I shoot mostly on AWB, occasionally if your WB is off, you can always make adjustment at PP.

You must hang out with people to know what is going on, at least at specific forum or at least read up your camera manual la. Otherwise your pictures might turn up less than your expectation.

Try out all the different settings, that way you'll know when to use what and where. I've never tried the preset landscape setting as i prefer using manual for landscape shots. But last outing tried it out and was surprised that it was better than expected. The exposures came out well, better than my own manual setting. The point is you got to get to know your camera first, the est comes with practice. Happy shooting and hope to see you on our next shot out.
